On Friday, April 28, 2023, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia attended the passing out ceremony for the Narcotics Control Commission’s Cadet 7. The ceremony took place at the Ghana Immigration Training School in Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
Vice President Bawumia took to Twitter to post about the event and claimed that before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office in 2017, the Ghana Immigration Service had a total staff of 2,850 officers.
However, Fact-Check Ghana has verified this claim and found it to be completely false. According to the Ghana Immigration Service’s 2016 annual report, the total staff strength of the organization as of December 31, 2016, was 4,270. Of this number, 471 were senior officers, 3,690 were junior officers, and 109 were auxiliary staff.
Therefore, the Vice President’s claim that the Immigration Service had only 2,850 officers before the NPP took office is incorrect and misleading.
