You must use your WASSCE scores to submit an application after SHS to any nursing training programme of your choice. For many people who don’t meet the grade standards for nursing programmes, this has become a hurdle.

In this piece, we’ll look at how to apply to a nursing training programme in Ghana if your WASSCE scores are D7, E8 or F9.

You must have grades of A1 through C6 in English, maths and science, as well as any additional three electives, for a total of no more than 36 to apply for a degree in nursing in Ghana.

How to Apply to Nursing Training with D7 or E8 in WASSCE

This is a guide on how to apply to Nursing Training in Ghana with D7 or E8 in WASSCE

  1. List all of the subjects in which you received a D7 or E8.
  2. Verify that neither your English, Math, or Integrated Science scores are E8 or F9.
  3. You only have one E8 or F9 subject in your elective courses.
  4. Add the grades for your three top optional subjects, integrated science, English, and maths.
  5. Ensure that the sum of all of your grades does not exceed 24.
  6. Check whether the training college you intend to attend offers a diploma programme by identifying it.
  7. Apply by purchasing forms.

Please take note that you will not be accepted for a diploma or degree program if you received a D7 in one of the three core topics or electives you are applying with. If you have a D7, I advise you to retake the course to improve your grade or to enrol in a certificate program so you may top it off later.

 Can I apply for nursing training with D7 in Science?

If you apply with D7 in one of the three core subjects or electives, you will not be accepted for a diploma or degree programme. I suggest retaking the course if you get a D7 in order to raise your mark, or enrolling in a certificate programme so you may finish the course later.

Can I apply for nursing training with E8?

Yes, you can apply to nursing schools using the WASSCE’s E8. This is only open to those who received an E8 in social studies or one elective subject. You can still apply with your remaining courses because you only need 3 core subjects and 3 electives. You might want to consider enrolling in a diploma course or opting to retake those tests in NOV or DEC if you achieved these grades in English, Math, Science, or one of the three elective topics if you took those subjects.

If I failed in core maths can I still go to nursing training?

If you didn’t pass the core maths exam, you can’t enrol in nursing school in Ghana. You might need to retake the exam in NOV or DEC.

Can I become a nurse with Home Economics?

Yes you can pursue nursing with a Home Economics background, you will have to work a little extra to catch up with all the detailed science-related areas.
