National Service Scheme registration will enable the management of the service to post students from over 124 tertiary institutions all over Ghana to various sectors of the country’s working force.

As you are graduating from a tertiary institution in Ghana, you are required to register for the National Service Scheme to get a placement for 1 year of service to the country.

In this post, we will look at the requirements for National Service Scheme (NSS) enrolment in Ghana, how to apply for NSS and more.

NSS Registration Requirements

Below are the primary requirements for NSS registration in Ghana;

  1. You must be a Ghanaian
  2. You must be 18 years or above at the time of application
  3. You must be completing or obtaining a first degree or diploma

How to Register for NSS 2023

  1. Visit the NSS website (nss.gov.gh) in a web browser, preferably Google Chrome.
  2. Click on “Check Pincode” to retrieve your Pincode by inputting your School ID and Date of Birth.
  3. You will be required to pay a fee of 40 cedis for your Pincode. (Kindly note that, you will have to pay GHC 41 if you are paying through Mobile Money).
  4. After retrieving your Pincode, you should go back to the main NSS website and click on Register Online or visit portal.nss.gov.gh/registration-signin in a web browser to start your registration.
  5. Enter your School ID (Index Number), your Pincode and Date of Birth.
  6. Click on “Access Registration Form”.
  7. Fill out the Registration Form and Submit it to complete your registration.

How to Pay for NSS Pincode with MTN Mobile Money

  1. Choose Option 2 “Pay Bill
  2. Choose General Payments (Option 6)
  3. Enter Payment code as – NSS PINCODE(type NSS, put a space, then type your PINCODE). The menu will return to your name for confirmation.
  4. Enter the deposit amount (GH¢41.00).
  5. Enter NSS reference
  6. Enter PIN to confirm payment
  7. You will receive a message to confirm the transaction, then you can proceed to NSS Registration

I completed school years ago, Can I still register for the National Service Scheme?

You can register for the NSS even if you missed the chance to do it years ago. You can still enrol to do the service, you just need to register as soon as the process begins, you will have up to 15 days to do so.

I couldn’t finish NSS, can I apply again to continue?

If you started but could not finish your NSS, you can reapply to continue as soon as the process begins.

Can Ghanaians who studied abroad apply for NSS?

Indeed, Ghanaians who have studied abroad and even qualified private candidates are eligible to apply for the National Service Scheme (NSS). All eligible individuals are obligated to submit their application letters to any of the Regional Secretariats of the Scheme or directly to the NSS head office in Accra.

Requirements for NSS as a Private or International Student

Below are the requirements for applying for NSS as a private or international student;

  1. All applications must be accompanied by a letter requesting for PIN code or reactivation of the PIN code
  2. A certified true copy of your School Certificate or Transcript
  3. A copy of any of the following National Identifications (Voters, Driver’s License, Travel Passport)
  4. A copy of your School ID
  5. Evidence of Deferment Letter
  6. An Attestation/Introductory Letter from the institution attended

International students are mandated to upload their travel passports and other supporting documents on portal.www.nss.gov.gh as part of the NSS Diaspora Program.

Is National Service in Ghana mandatory?

Certainly! In Ghana, the National Service is obligatory as stipulated by the National Service Act of 1980 (Act 426). This legislation mandates that all Ghanaian citizens who are 18 years of age or older and have completed tertiary education are required to fulfill their national service commitment to the state.

When is the closing date for 2023 (NSS) registration?

The 2023 NSS registration will end on 8th August 2023.

How to Activate the NSS Enrollment Process

Individuals who sign up for NSS must adhere to these straightforward instructions to obtain PIN Codes along with their index numbers for registration.

They will need to make a payment of either GHC 40.00 at any branch of Agricultural Development Bank Ltd (ADB) across the country or GHC 41.00 through MTN Mobile Money.
