Scholarships in Canada Canadian Graduate Scholarships CGS Without IELTS
The Canada Graduate Scholarships for international students are now open for applications for the 2023-2024 intake session. These valuable scholarships are available to eligible students with good academic results and research potential, and IELTS scores are not mandatory.
Studying in Canada under the Canadian Graduate Scholarships is a dream come true for many students. It offers a golden opportunity for candidates to contribute to research fields while pursuing MS or Doctoral programs at Canadian universities.
The Canadian Graduate Scholarships award is a joint program of the Canadian Health Research Institutes (CIHR), Social Science & Humanity Research Council (SSRC), and Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council (NSERC). Every year, approximately 3,000 deserving students enrolled in MS or Ph.D. programs at reputable Canadian universities that offer the Canada Graduate Scholarships program are selected for this Canadian scholarship. The aim of this merit-based scholarship is to assist in the training of extraordinary undergraduate and graduate students and to enhance their research skills.
The deserving winners of the Canada Graduate Scholarship program will receive $17,500 for 12 months during their educational journey in Canada to cover their expenses.
Some prestigious Canadian universities offering Canada Graduate Scholarships for Master CS degrees with SSRC, CIHR, & NSERC include Alberta University, Toronto University, British Columbia University, Dalhousie University, University of Waterloo, Calgary University, Ottawa University, Western University, and Queens University.
Before applying for the Canada Graduate Master’s Scholarship, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- The applicant must be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident or a Protected Person under the Refugee act.
- The applicant must be enrolled or getting enrolled in a full-time Master’s or Doctoral program at Canadian higher institutions with CGS shares.
- The applicant must apply for admission within the deadline of an eligible graduate program.
- The applicant must not have previously held a CGS scholarship.
- The applicant must have obtained first-class leverage in the last two years of study.
- Applicants are allowed to submit only one scholarship or fellowship application per academic year to NSERC, CIHR, or SSHRC.
Students must enroll in one of the following course programs at renowned Canadian higher institutions to become eligible for the Canada Graduate Master’s scholarship program:
- Joint Programs, including;
- DVM/Ph.D.
- MD/Ph.D.
- JD/Ph.D.
- JD/MA
- MBA/Ph.D
- MA/MBA
- Clinically Oriented Programs
However, all the chosen graduate degree programs must contain a research element that enables the candidates to work on a thesis, dissertation, clinical trial, research project, scholarly publication, etc. Simple MS degrees with no clinical research work are not eligible for the Canadian Graduate Scholarships program.
The application process for the Canadian Graduate Scholarship program is online. Candidates can submit their applications via the Research Portal of the Government of Canada’s official site. The application deadline is June 1, 2023.
Applicants must upload the required documents in the specified format, and password-protected documents will not be accepted. Three Reference Assessments must be submitted with the application before the deadline. No changes are accepted once the application is submitted, and late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
The selection of winners for Canadian Graduate Scholarships will be based on previous academic records, research skills, critical thinking ability, past work experience or academic training in the chosen research field, personal characteristics, leadership experience, and interpretation skills.
