Introduction
The Annual Essay Competition on Governmental Scientific Advice is now open for entries from Latin American and Caribbean residents who are scientists, academics, professionals, and policymakers.
This contest aims to promote the submission of essays that discuss how scientific advice can help with the creation of public policies (executive, legislative, and regulatory mechanisms) that national and local governments can use to support the preservation and restoration of nature, as agreed upon in the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) of Kunming-Montreal 2022, which included the participation of 196 countries.
When creating and executing local or national public policies that help their respective countries achieve the goals of the agreement, authors are obligated to take the scientific evidence about the state of biodiversity into account. Essays might either give a broad overview of the GBF or concentrate on a few of its more specific goals or priorities.
