Introduction
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has gained renown for its commitment to meeting the welfare needs of its students. KNUST recognizes that students perform better when their welfare needs are taken care of, and thus, it actively offers numerous scholarships and bursaries to support the well-being of students on campus. The KNUST scholarships and grants portal regularly announces these scholarships and bursaries for interested students to explore.
The available scholarships and grants include the edu fondazion scholarship, hulede foundation scholarship, education pathways international scholarship, MasterCard foundation scholarship, GNP scholarship, and more. However, the most captivating grants are the KNUST student bursary, the SRC Ketwa Biara Nsua (KBN), and the Sonsole One Needy Student One Laptop Project.
KNUST Bursary
The KNUST bursary aims to assist financially disadvantaged yet brilliant students in pursuing their university degrees. It is open to all students seeking this support. The amount awarded during the interview process can range from GHC 500.00 to GHC 1,500.00, depending on the applicant’s demonstrated financial need.
SRC Ketwa Biara Nsua (KBN)
The Student Representative Council (SRC) offers this grant to support students’ needs as they navigate their way through university. It is available to all students, except those who are already on scholarships or are fee-paying. Successful applicants, determined through a panel interview, may receive an amount ranging from GHC 500.00 to GHC 1,000.00.
Grant Disbursement
Although these bursaries play a crucial role for students, they can be disappointing for those who have already paid their school fees, as the grants typically credit directly to the applicant’s academic fees account. However, there is a way to receive the funds directly into your own pocket through the refund process, which addresses how to receive your KBN or KNUST bursary for your own expenditure.
Refund Application Policy
Fresh applicants to KNUST cannot request a refund as fees paid by freshmen are non-refundable. Nonetheless, continuing students who have overpaid their school fees can request a refund either to the individual or the organization that paid the fees.
Process of Receiving Your KBN or KNUST Bursary
The refund process is simple and requires just a few steps to complete.
1. Compose a refund letter and address it to the school’s account office. The letter should follow the official format for refund requests and include the following details:
- Full name
- Student Identification Number
- Department
- Purpose of the refund
- Bank account details, including bank name, branch, account name, and account number
You can read more about how to write a refund letter in this article but there is a sample of the overpaid fees or kbn and bursary refund letter attached below… you can copy and edit it to meet your preference.
2. Once you have prepared the letter, submit it to the school’s account office at the main administration building located near the Prempeh II Library (main library). They will process your request, and soon the funds will be transferred to your bank account. If desired, you can then transfer the funds to your Mobile Money account. Visit the main KNUST administration building to submit your letter.
3. Once you have submitted your letter, please be patient. It may take a few working days to process your refund request. Make sure to check your account frequently to see if the money has been disbursed. Once the funds are paid into your account, the deduction will be made in your school fees account, completing the process of receiving your KBN or KNUST bursary.
