Reading Time: 2 minutes

Introduction

The RSL Literature Matters Awards seek to recognise and foster literary originality and brilliance. The Awards are granted to individual writers and other literary creators each year after an open call for proposals, honouring their past accomplishments and giving them financial help to carry out a planned new piece of writing or literary project.

The RSL Literature Matters Awards: Priority will be given to submissions that will connect with audiences or subjects outside of literature’s typical purview and/or that will help spark public discourse about why literature matters. The undertaking could take the form of a written work or works, a publishing, an occasion, or a production.

About Royal Society of Literature (RSL)

King George IV established the Royal Society of Literature (RSL), an academic organisation, in 1820 to “reward literary merit and excite literary talent.” About 600 Fellows of the RSL, a charity that speaks for literature in the UK, were chosen from among the best authors currently producing work in any genre.

Additionally, people who have significantly contributed to the growth of literature, such as publishers, agents, librarians, booksellers, or producers, are recognised as Honorary Fellows.
