The WAEC Grading System
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) accepts the grading system used by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which includes the grading of D7.
The WAEC grading system assigns grades from A1 to F9 for each subject based on the student’s raw score. The grades A1 to C6 are considered as passes, while grades D7 and E8 are considered as marginal passes. Grade F9 is considered as a fail.
The KNUST calculates the grade point average (GPA) for applicants based on their grades in their six best subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). The specific requirements for each program vary, and applicants are encouraged to review the admission guidelines for their desired program.
It is important to note that while a D7 grade is accepted by KNUST, it may affect an applicant’s chances of admission, especially for highly competitive programs. Therefore, it is recommended that students aim for higher grades to increase their chances of admission.
In summary, KNUST accepts the WAEC grading system, which includes d7 as a marginal pass. However, applicants with a d7 grade may need to meet additional requirements and may have a lower chance of admission compared to those with higher grades.
