The Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) elections scheduled to take place today, Tuesday, July 23, 2023 at the Republic Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been disrupted due to the disqualification of 12 candidates by the Electoral Commission (EC).
According to an insider (who want to stay anonymous), the EC disqualified the candidates because of CWA-related issues. it could be that these aspirants didn`t meet the CWA requirement for participating in the TEIN election bu still went ahead to contest. this disqualification has halted the election process. Although the TEIN EC has not released any official statement, it is likely that the elections will not happen today.

This is not the first time that the KNUST Interim SRC Electoral Commission has disqualified candidates.
The disqualification of the 12 TEIN candidates has caused disappointment among students, who were looking forward to participating in the elections. The TEIN is the tertiary student’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) KNUST, and the elections were seen as an opportunity to reposition the organization for victory in 2024.
It is important to note that fair and transparent electoral processes are essential for democratic stability.
