The Plight Of The Ordinary Ghanaian.
Youth member of parliament for Kintampo North constituency under the youth leadership parliament, Hon. Ameyaw Wilkinson have petitioned the government and stakeholders to take into account the grievances of the poor by making the acclaimed affordable housing, affordable to the people.
In the interview he said: Affordable housing has become a pressing issue in Ghana, with many Ghanaians struggling to find decent and affordable housing.
Despite efforts by the government to provide affordable residence, the reality is that these houses are not affordable to the average Ghanaian.
As a youth MP of Kintampo North, I strongly believe that the government must consider and think of the poor when it comes to providing affordable housing.
The cost of housing in Ghana is simply too high for many Ghanaians to afford. This is particularly true for those living in urban areas, where housing costs have skyrocketed in recent years. Even the so-called affordable housing provided by the government is often priced out of reach for many Ghanaians, especially those living below the poverty line.
The government must take action to address this issue. It is not enough to simply build more houses and hope that it will be affordable to everyone. The government must actively work to ensure that accomodation is truly affordable to Ghanaians of all income levels, including the poor.
Speaking on, he expresses on some ways to curb the problem of affordable housing.
One way to do this is by providing subsidies or tax breaks for low-income families who are struggling to pay for accommodation.
Another option is to encourage the development of more affordable housing options, such as smaller, more efficient homes that are easier to build and maintain.
Ultimately, the government must prioritize the needs of its citizens over the interests of developers and investors.
Affordable dwelling place is not a luxury – it is a basic human right. It is time for the government to take action to ensure that all Ghanaians have access to safe, decent, and affordable housing
