Introduction

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has “slapped” His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo with some strong warning ahead of the bye-elections in the Assin North Constituency.

Nana Akufo Addo is on record to have said that the people of Assin North shouldn’t waste their vote on NDC candidate Gyakye Quayson. In his opinion he will even go to jail even if he wins. “They say even if Gyakye Quayson is in jail they will vote for him, are we going to vote for someone who is going to prison?”

Meanwhile, Ex President Mahama who is also in Assin North live in colour has replied that His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo basically have no idea of what he’s saying. He added that it is clear the Supreme Court made a huge mistake in their ruling against Former MP James Gyakye Quayson. “Even justices of the court and professors of law have said that the Supreme Court erred in this judgement because the Constitution is clear,”.

He continued that the good people of Assin North should disregard whatever Akufo Addo. Moreover, the 1992 Constitution of the Republic, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson qualifies to contest as a member of Parliament. “It says to be eligible to be an MP you should not owe allegiance to two countries. It is at the point of elections that that kicks in not when you are filling ordinary forms.

Tension Rises At Assin North Bye-Elections

In conclusion, Former President Mahama is even more confused that a whole President of Ghana is making such statements while the case is still in court. “We disagree with the Supreme Court. Quayson is not a prisoner and if the President said that it is unfortunate, it is against our democracy. It is against our laws. The president cannot prejudice a case in court.”
