The Indian Engineering Services (IES) Exam is an annually held, highly competitive exam administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. It is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious exams in the country, with thousands of engineering graduates vying for a limited number of positions each year. In this blog post, we will discuss the key aspects of the IES exam, including the registration process, eligibility criteria, and fees.

Registration Process;

To apply for the IES exam, candidates must visit the official website of the UPSC during the registration period, which typically runs from September to October. The registration process is entirely online and involves creating an account on the website, filling in the application form with personal and educational information, paying the application fee, and submitting the form. Candidates are advised to keep a copy of the application form and payment receipt for future reference.

Eligibility Criteria;

To be eligible for the IES exam, candidates must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognized university or institution. Candidates in the final year of their engineering program can also apply.
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be between 21 to 30 years of age as of January 1st of the year of the exam. However, relaxation rules apply to candidates from certain categories such as SC, ST, and OBC.
  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens, or they must be from Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1st, 1962, with the intention of settling in India permanently.
  • Physical Standards: Candidates must meet the prescribed physical standards for the engineering services.

Fees;

The IES exam has two components of fees: the application fee and the exam fee. The application fee is Rs. 200 for General and OBC candidates, while SC, ST, and female candidates are exempt from paying the fee. The exam fee is Rs. 100, which can be paid either online or offline using a credit card, debit card, net banking, or SBI Challan.

Conclusion;

The IES exam is a challenging but rewarding exam for engineering graduates who want to work in prestigious government organizations in India. Aspirants should carefully review the eligibility criteria, registration process, and fees before applying for the exam.
